  18. in 1990 near Montreal that triggered a debate over Indian rights
  19. in Canada and the U.S.; by Quebec Superior Court; in Saint
  20. Jerome. The confrontation between the Mohawks and armed forces
  21. began when Natives from the Kanesatake Reserve mounted a
  22. roadblock on an access road to protest plans by the nearby
  23. village of Oka to expand a golf course on land the Indians said
  24. was theirs.
